Portville - Barbara Ann Comstock, of Colwell Street, Portville, passed away Friday (March 4, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital, after a lengthy illness, with her family by her side.
Born January 18, 1953, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late, Donald and Barbara Simmons Hennings. She married John R. Comstock, who predeceased her on May 31, 1986.
After her husband’s passing, Barbara was a devoted homemaker to her young children. She had proudly served as a caregiver for members of her family and was a hairdresser for the Olean area nursing homes.
Barbara was a member of the Portville American Legion Post 814. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening, and camping. She loved her cats and generously donated money to the SPCA. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by; three children, Diana (Donald) Taggerty of Portville, James (Keri) Comstock of Allegany, and John J. Comstock of Cuba; six grandchildren, Alyssia (Jesse Babb) Taggerty, Matthew and Kirsten Comstock, Allayna, Dresden, and Izzabella Comstock; four siblings, Donald Hennings of Portville, Cathy (Barry) Case of Hamlin, Kelly (Mike) VanBuskirk of Portville, and Bud Wittenburg of Bolivar; one sister-in-law, Jan Comstock; one Uncle, Jimmy (Gerri) Simmons; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her parents, she is predeceased by her parents Fred and Barb Wittenburg (Hennings) from Richburg and Donald and Louise Hennings of Tonawanda.
Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville on Thursday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday (March 11, 2022) at 10am at the funeral home. Rev. Carrie Wolfe, pastor with Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate. Her funeral service will be live streamed at http://buffalomedia.net/03112022 for those unable to attend. Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband in Mt. View Cemetery, Veterans Field of Honors.
