Barbara Marie Whiteman, loving wife, mother and grandmother
Olean- Barbara Marie Whiteman, of Olean and Ocala, FL., passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.
Barb was born in Olean, on February 18, 1954, at St. Francis Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Arthemise Austin Piechota. On October 10, 1975, at St. Mary’s of the Angels, she married James M. Whiteman, who survives.
She graduated from Olean High School and earned her Associate's degree from Empire State University in 1999. Barb started working at Sears Roebuck and Co. in 1979 and became a store manager, she worked there until 2006.
Barb was a member of the Pulaski Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Ocala Rolling Greens Ladies Golf Club. She loved spending time with her grandson Ivan. Some of her hobbies were painting birds and garden scenes, gardening, ceramics, bird watching, and being a member of the Bills Mafia. She enjoyed casino trips with her lifelong friends, vacation cruises, and spending winters in her home in Florida.
Barb is survived by her husband, James; son, Scott (Kristin) Whiteman; daughter, Kelly (Kari) Coffin-Whiteman; grandson, Ivan Coffin-Whiteman; brothers, Walter (Roberta) Piechota and Steve (Sue) Piechota; a sister, Janice Manley; brother-in-law, Mark (Kim) Whiteman; sister-in-law, Susan King, brother-in-law, Brian (Jen) Whiteman, sister-in-law, Maryellen Whiteman; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by the family dog, Ziggy; brothers-in-law, Charles Manley and Tom Whiteman; and sister-in-law, Phyllis “PP” Piechota.
Family and friends will be received for a memorial visitation at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 East State Street, Olean, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 9 to 11 a.m. Following the visitation, a brunch will be provided at the Pulaski Club where great memories and stories can be shared, bring your favorite photo.
