Barry B. Clawson, Sr.

Olean-Barry B. Clawson, Sr., of Olean, passed away Monday (June 7, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born December 14, 1948 in Bradford, PA., he was the son of the late, Gerald Arthur and Norma Alberta Slingerland Clawson.  On September 16, 1978 in Olean, he married Frances DeMart, who survives.

Barry was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He went on to work for Dresser Rand in Olean.

He was a member of the Coldsprings Volunteer Fire Department and the Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association.  In his free time, Barry loved riding his Harley, going to antique tractor pulls, and working in his “shop.” Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Barry was blessed to have many special friends and good neighbors in his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons; Barry (Nicole) Clawson, Jr., and Jeremy (Charlean) Clawson; three grandchildren, Lindsey, Juliette, and Mathis; one sister, Marsha (Larry) Dechow; brother-in-law, Ralph DeMart; sister-in-law, Joanne (Frank) Fischer; seven nieces, six nephews, all of whom were very special to “Uncle Barry.”

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Neioma Clawson; sisters-in-law, Madeline Mitchell, Elizabeth Snyder, Norma DeMart, Virginia DeMart; brothers-in-law, Perry DeMart, Norman Mitchell, and Edwin Snyder; two nieces; and one nephew.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Monday (June 14, 2021) from 3-6pm with a prayer service beginning at 6pm.

Memorials if desired may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
