Bernadette Marie Jones – Loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother
OLEAN – Bernadette “Dolly” Marie Jones passed away Thursday, May 14, at Olean General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Bernadette was born in Olean on February 12, 1948, the daughter of John and Tina (Chiapuso) Fidurko. On April 25, 1970, Bernadette married Gary “Casey” Jones, who predeceased her on May 19, 2018.
Bernadette graduated from Olean High School, class of 1966, and devoted many years to the Olean City School District working in the food service department.
She was a member of the Pulaski Club Auxiliary, and also a parishioner of the Basilica of St. Mary’s of the Angels Church. Bernadette enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether it was playing bingo with her mother and sister, joining in games of ping-pong, or attending church festivals together. She loved country music, polkas, and line dancing, and staying active through local women’s softball and bowling leagues, walking, and biking. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, and she could always be found cheering them on at all of their sporting events and activities.
Bernadette is survived by sons Patrick and Christopher (JoAnne) Jones; siblings, William (Diane) Fidurko, Joseph Fidurko, Bernard (Lorie) Fidurko, and John (Andrea) Fidurko; grandchildren Madison, Isaac, Nicholas, Alexander, Jackson, and Amelia; and 14 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Tina, husband Gary, daughter Tina, sister Mary Ann Hirliman, brother-in-law John Hirliman, and granddaughter Julia Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 28 at 10 am at the Basilica of St. Mary’s of the Angels in Olean with burial to follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State St., Olean.
