Carol K. Hakes

Hinsdale- Carol K. Hakes, formerly of Hinsdale, passed away Friday (February 12, 2021) at Eden Heights, where she had been residing for the past three years.

Born January 31, 1941 in Hinsdale, she was the daughter of the late, Ernest “Hap” and Marjorie Fairfield Hull. In 1962, she married Richard Hakes, who predeceased her in 2011.

Carol was a graduate of Hinsdale Central School and received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia.  She continued her education and received her Master’s Degree in Education from St. Bonaventure University.

Carol was as a music teacher for Allegany Central School and for Allegany- Limestone Central School for many years.   She was a concert pianist, and had performed in Carnegie Hall.   She also enjoyed traveling, especially with her husband, together they traveled to all 50 States.  Carol was an avid gardener and she loved spending time with her dog, Apollo.

Surviving is; one daughter, Terri (Rich) Tarbox of Pflugerville, TX; one brother Jay (Deborah Grasberger) Hull of Rush, NY; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Farwell of Hinsdale and Marcia (Alvin) Gross of Springville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, James Hull.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Wednesday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (February 18, 2021) at 11am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst.
