Charles Raymond Bean

Olean- Charles Raymond Bean of Olean, passed away Friday (January 5, 2024) at Olean General Hospital, with his family by his side.

Charles was born in Olean on February 5, 1948, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth McLaughlin Bean.  On February 10, 1968 he married the former Sharon Bazow, who survives.

Charles graduated from Olean High School, class of 1966. He was the owner and President of Kennedy and Bean Painting Company. After retiring, he worked for the Olean Police 911 dispatch and was a Community Bank Courier. Moving to Delary Beach, Florida, he worked part time at Boca Raton golf course and Seagate golf course with his long-time childhood friend, Jim Eaton. Wanting to be with family and friends, he returned to Olean.

Charles served with the Army National Guard. He was a member of St. John’s Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Pulaski Club. He enjoyed many sports, including, hunting, fishing, playing softball and golfing with his son. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to the races. He loved riding his Harley motor cycle with his many good friends.

Charles is survived by his wife Sharon of 55 years; daughter, Alecia (Brent) Obergfell; Son, James (Andrea Dapolito) Bean; granddaughter’s, Olivia and Mia Bean and Courtney Obergfell; and sister, Paula (Thomas) Paar.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth; his beloved grandson, Brennan Bean; and a brother, John Bean, Jr.

 A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (January 12, 2024) at 10am at St. John’s Church, Olean. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
