Waterloo- Charles K. Mette, a longtime Olean resident, passed away Wednesday (October 6, 2021) at the Huntington Nursing Home in Waterloo, where he had been residing.
Born October 4, 1924 in Austin, PA., he was the son of the late Fred and Maude Lewis Mette. On January 2, 1947 in Olean, he married the former Marilyn E. Scanlon, who predeceased him on November 2, 2019.
Chuck attended St. Bonaventure University and was a proud World War, II Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps., serving in China, Berma, and India. He worked for Verizon as the central office supervisor in Olean, until his retirement. Chuck was a lifetime member of the Olean VFW and Hinsdale American Legion Post #1434. He was also a member of the Enchanted Mountain Masonic lodge, the Coudersport Consistory, and the AACS Hump Pilot Association. He served as a Cattaraugus County legislator, an Olean city alderman, on the Olean School Board and was on the city of Olean Zoning Board.
Surviving are three children; Pamela (Robert) Dicke of Lake Worth, Fla., David (Kerry) Mette of Waterloo, and Mary Ann (Alan Lampe) Barna of Colleyville, Texas; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday (October 16, 2021) at 11am at the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion. Rev. Kim Rossi, rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, will officiate.
