Charles "Buster" Tarbox Obituary

Portville- Charles “Buster” F. Tarbox of 1711 Haskell Road, passed away Saturday (March 26, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital, after a long illness.

Born March 15, 1946, in Olean, he was the son of the late, Charles and Wilma Russell Tarbox.  On November 8, 1967, in Hinsdale, he married Carol A. Metcalf, who survives.

Buster was drafted to the United States Army in April of 1967. He served during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1969.  He worked for several companies in the Olean area, including Paul Brown Motors and OSM Corporation.

In his younger years, Buster was a baseball coach for little league and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also enjoyed welding, which he taught his grandson, Dawson, who decided to pursue a career in the welding field.

Buster’s grandfather was a founding father of the Weston Mills Fire Department, and Buster has proudly served for almost fifty years and was their current Captain.  Buster also followed in his dad’s footsteps and was a member of the Cattaraugus County and New York State Fire Police Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; two sons, Craig (Jennifer) Tarbox of Lewis Run, PA., and Carey J. (Jeanna) Tarbox of Weston Mills; four grandchildren, Zachary, Ann, Dawson, and Shania Tarbox; one great-grandchild, Skylar; and an adopted grandchild, Fred.  He is also survived by two siblings, John (Janet) Tarbox of Olean and Mary Menter of Weston Mills; several nieces and nephews; his beloved pup, Libby; and many close friends.

He was predeceased by; one sister, Patricia Tarbox.

Funeral and burial services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
