Charlie Kent Obituary

Olean- Charles E. “Charlie” Kent, of 2806 Back Hinsdale Road, passed away Wednesday (August 25, 2021) at his home, with his family by his side.

Born March 13, 1948 in Olean, he was the son of the late, Harold L. and Marjorie Jean Neil Kent.  He married the former Margaret “Peggy” Baker.  They remained close friends throughout the years.

Charlie was a graduate of Hinsdale Central School. He first worked on his family farm, Kent Dairy Farm in Olean and then for, L C Whitford Co. in Wellsville.  In 1984, he started Kent’s General Contracting, and over the years established a very successful business, retiring in 2016. He continued to work on the farm and land as he enjoyed his retirement.

Charlie was an active lifetime member of the Hinsdale American Legion, Post 250 and a former member of the Beagle Club. He was an avid hunter, and loved being outside; whether it was riding his Harley, riding his Kubota around the family property, or spending time at his pond with his family and friends.

Surviving are two children; Cassandra (William) Eckert of Brunswick, OH and Jerrett Kent of Olean; two grandsons, Joseph Charles and Hayes William Eckert; three sisters, Karen Rinas of Port Clinton, OH., Susan Sears of Charlottesville, VA., and Sally Kent of Olean; a companion, Laura Burt of Olean; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and his beloved Yorkie “Harley”.

He was predeceased by; his brothers-in-law, Robert Sears, and George Rinas.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street on Sunday from 4-7pm.  Funeral services will be held on Monday (August 30, 2021) at 11am at the funeral home. Dr. Rev. Anthony Evans, will officiate.  Private burial services will be held in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Buffalo, NY 14228, the Hinsdale American Legion, 3727 Route 16, Hinsdale, or to the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, 3832 Main Street, Hinsdale.
