Asheville, NC- Dorothy I. Sczudlo, formerly of Olean, passed away Sunday (December 11, 2022) in Asheville, N.C., where she had been residing for many years.
Born April 10, 1926, in Olean, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Edith Linn Martin. On July 1, 1950, she married Benjamin F. Sczudlo, who predeceased her.
Dorothy received her bachelor’s degree from Alfred University and worked for many years as a phlebotomist and medical technician at the Olean Medical Group.
She was a longtime parishioner of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean. She volunteered delivering meals to the elderly and driving people to their appointments. Dorothy also volunteered with the American Red Cross blood drives. She enjoyed tole painting, quilting, watching Wheel of Fortune and an avid reader. Most of all, Dorothy truly loved her family and looked forward to attending the annual Linn Family Reunion.
Dorothy is survived by; two sons, Joseph (Mary) Sczudlo of Asheville, NC and Peter (Michelle) Sczudlo of LeRoy; a daughter, Lisbeth (John) Thurston of Lakeland, Fla; one sister, Pauline (Bill) Rasbeck of Fulton; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Ruth and brother, Hugh.
A memorial visitation and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
