Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Huntington

Olean- Elizabeth Marie Huntington, (nee Bearfield), passed away on her 94th birthday on January 28, 2021, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital.

Born January 28, 1927 in Knapp Creek, she was the daughter of the late, Michael and Bridget Dougherty Bearfield.

Betty was a graduate of Olean High School, class of 1944. She lived in Avon Park, FL for forty years, before she retired from her career as a beauty salon owner. While in Florida, she was an avid golfer. Betty moved back to Olean to be near her cherished siblings. She lived alone fifty years, worked until she was eighty, drove until she was eighty-nine, and took no prisoners.  She left behind a legacy of character, integrity, kindness, and honesty.

She is survived by; two daughters, Michele (Bill) Schaffner of Annapolis, MD., and Sandy (Ron) Mamere of Clackamas, OR. Betty was the proud grandmother to; Elizabeth Schaffner, Sarah Rothschild, John Osborne, Mike Osborne, and Will Mamere. She is also survived by her siblings; Mary Despard of Olean, Kathryn (Glenn) Cooper of Cuba, Jack (Judy) Bearfield of West Seneca, and George (Nancy) Bearfield of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Olkosky and Sally Swetland; and her companion of five years, Anthony D’Alicandro.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Wednesday (February 3, 2021) from 10-11am, with funeral services to follow at 11am.  Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
