Esther T. Dunn, loving mother and grandmother
Olean – Esther T. Dunn of Olean, died peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022 in her home. Born October 21, 1925, in Auburn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Esther Warter.
On May 25, 1948, in Auburn, she married her loving husband, Robert Dunn.
Esther was an active member of St. John’s Church. In 1981, she was honored by the Archbishop Walsh Foundation as “Person of the Year” due to her extensive involvement at Walsh. The 1987 Walsh Aerie Yearbook Committee dedicated the yearbook in her honor. Esther was an avid square dancer, loved holiday gatherings and having family over, especially baking cookies with the grandkids.
She is survived by her children: Jack (Nancy) Dunn of Peoria, IL, Peg (Jim) Colosimo of Tucson, AZ, Tom (Susan) Dunn of Livonia, MI, Eileen Jonak of Olean, Susan (David) Schafer of Peoria, IL, Patricia (Paul) Larsen of Omaha, NE, Robert (Denise) Dunn of Hyde Park, NY, David (Karen) Dunn of Red House, WV, Charles (Lynda) Dunn of Allegany, Maureen DeArmitt of Cuba, Mary (Jon) Friedman of Fair Haven, NJ, James (Shauna) Dunn of Falmouth, ME, and Jeanne (Matthew) Lippert of Allegany; 43 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Thelma and Vera; two infant sons, Gregory and George; and two sons-in-law, Jim DeArmitt and Larry Jonak.
Family will receive friends Monday (April 11) from 6:00pm - 9:00pm at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc. Olean, 1303 East State Street. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (April 12, 2022), beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 12:30pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm in St. John’s Church, 934 N. Union St. Olean. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
