Francis “Frank” Michael Connelly, loving husband, father, and grandfather
Olean – Francis “Frank” Michael Connelly, of Olean, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at Cuba Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 3, 1944, in Olean, he was the son of the late Francis P. and Ann Cullather Connelly. On April 21, 1979, at St. John’s Church, he married the former Linda Ann Gleason, who survives.
A graduate of Archbishop Walsh High School, he later joined the US Army and served in Vietnam. In 1967 he joined the Olean Police Department where he proudly served for 41 years until his retirement.
Frank was a lifelong member of St. John’s Church and St. Bona’s basketball season ticket holder for more than 60 years. He was also a proud member of many organizations, including the Olean American Legion, VFW, AOH, Pulaski Club, PBA, WNY Assoc of Retired Police, and the Dempsey Club. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family telling stories.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Linda Ann; his children, Mary D. (Thomas C. Jacobs) Giardini, Christine A., Megan L. (Craig Bojanowski), and Joseph F. Connelly; a grandson, Andrew J. Giardini; his sisters, Elizabeth A., Anne M. Angora, Maureen A. (Edwin) Negron, and Kathleen T. Connelly; sisters-in-law, Dianna J. and Darlene L. Connelly as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Francis P. and Ann; brothers, Patrick J. (Patricia A.), Joseph J. (Patricia A.), James N., and Paul A Connelly; brother-in-law, Thomas J. Angora; and a son-in-law Stephen J. Giardini.
Family will receive friends Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 3 pm to 6 pm, at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc. 1303 East State Street, Olean. Visitation will continue Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10 am to 11 am at St. John’s Church 931 N. Union, Olean, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. William McIntyre, OFM starting at 11 am. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion.
