Frank H. Aloi, Sr. loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather

Portville- Frank H. Aloi, Sr. of Goss Ave in Portville, passed away Friday January 3, 2025 at the Pines of Machias.

Frank was born in Olean on July 11, 1936, the son of the late Francis and Helen Aloi. On April 28, 1956, in the Sacred Heart Church in Portville, he married the love of his life the former Francine Foster. She predeceased him on April 3, 2014.

Frank graduated from Olean High School in 1954. He joined the United States Navy, serving from 1955 to 1959. Frank graduated with an associate degree from Suny Alfred in 1961. He worked at Dresser Clark from 1963 to 1968, then as treasurer of the Portville Forest Products, Inc. from 1968 to 2007.

Frank was very devoted to the community, having many memberships, and serving on many committees. He was the past Exalted Ruler, District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Secretary, and Trustee of the Olean Elks Lodge #491; past President of Portville Mens Club; past Treasurer, Olean chapter of National Association of Accts; Member of Knights of Columbus #338; President of St. Vincent DePaul Society of Sacred Heart Church of Portville; Eucharistic Minister of St. Mary of the Angels Church and St. Stephens Ministries; past President of Cattaraugus County Municipal Officials Association; President of Parish Council of St. Mary of the Angels; serving as Mayor of Portville for 16 years, 1979 to 1995; member of the Portville Lions Club; Portville American Legion Post # 814; served on the advisory board for Department of the Aging for delivery for Meals on Wheels.

Frank received many awards and recognitions for his services; Mayor of Portville 1979-1995; Lay Award of St. Joseph- Awarded at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Buffalo - April 14, 2005; Recognized for Outstanding Commitment to the Community – Salute to Olean – March 3, 2006; Certificate of Recognition – awarded by 57th District Senator, Catherine M. Young, Cattaraugus Community Action, Inc. – April 27, 2017; Cattaraugus County Retired Volunteer Program Volunteer of the Year – May 16, 2018; and he was a 63 year member of the Olean Elks Lodge # 491.

Frank is survived by his children, Yvonne (Jamie) Peace, Pamela Aloi, Frank Aloi, Jr., Kathleen (Kevin) Padlo, and Tony (Marcy) Aloi; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way; brothers, Charles William (aka Bill) (Sharon) Aloi, and John Aloi; a sister-in-law, Joan Jordan; and several nieces and nephews; and special friend and companion, Audrey Childs.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Francine; his parents, Francis and Helen; his brother, Ralph (aka, Bunk); and a sister’s-in-law, Beverly Aloi, Joan Aloi, Celia Aloi and Lucille Shavalier; and brother-in-law, Jerry Jordan.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm, and 7 pm to 9 pm, at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E State St. Olean. Olean Elks Officers will conduct a funeral service ritual at the evening visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean, with military honors to be accorded by the Allegany American Legion. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville.
