Gary E. Edgreen

Olean- Gary E. Edgreen, 79, of Olean, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Olean.

Born on October 14, 1942, in Port Allegany, PA., Gary was the eldest child of the late Ernest and Marie Edgreen. After graduating from Port Allegany High School, he worked in Port Allegany for several years. Gary graduated from Mansfield State College (now Mansfield University) in Mansfield, PA with a Bachelor's degree in Education and from St. Bonaventure University with a Master of Administration. He met his future wife Mary Jane (MJ) Shay at Mansfield State College, and they were married on August 22, 1970, in Harrisburg, PA.

Gary served in the National Guard (Bradford, PA Unit) after his high school graduation until March 1970. He taught in Olean City School District, initially at Hillside Elementary School until its closure and then primarily at Boardmanville Elementary School until his retirement in 1998. He was a friend to all, with a warm personality and wonderful sense of humor. Gary was always happy when boating, which most notably involved summers on their boat in Onoville. He loved being outdoors, especially when hunting and fishing with family and friends. Gary was an avid bowler and was involved with several local leagues.  He also was a longtime Buffalo Bills and Penn State Nittany Lions Fan.

Gary is survived by his wife MJ Edgreen, his sister Karen (Edgreen) Dancy and her family, and his brother Joel Edgreen and his family, including four nieces; one nephew; five grandnieces; and two grandnephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Friday (October 7, 2022) from 11am-1pm.  A memorial service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home.
