Gaylord R. “Satch” Sage, Loving Father, Papa, Other Papa

Olean- Gaylord R. “Satch” Sage passed into glory surrounded by his loving family on September 30, 2024.

Born January 22, 1935 he was the son of the late Bernice Owens and Derreth Cowles Sage.

Gaylord graduated from Olean high school in 1952.

He served with the United States Army and then he continued to serve his country in the army national guard until 1970.

As a teenager he began working in the family oil field in the Richburg area and moved to working at Chapin Dairy in Allegany. He then began a 47-year career as a Lead Draftsman at Clark Brothers/Dresser Industries.

On July 7, 1956 he married the love of his life Dorothy “Dottie” Sage and they enjoyed every moment of their 52-year marriage until she passed in October of 2008.

When he wasn’t working Gaylord enjoyed woodworking, automotive racing of any kind, listening to his music, photography, bird watching and home remodeling projects.

Gaylord was a faithful 66-year member of the Olean First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Allegany American Legion and a lifetime member of the St Stephen’s Club in Olean

Surviving are his sons, Mark (Kimberly Abdo) Sage of Ischua and Matthew (Casey) Sage of Olean; 10 grandchildren, Ryan Nichols, Timothy (Tiffany) Sage, Joseph Sherlock, Ashley Sage, Nathaniel Sage, Katrina DeGroff, Tyler Wirth, Nathan Wirth, and Chandler Wirth; 7 great grandchildren; and 2 special cousins, Garth Goodrich and Laurie Goodrich Deschler.

Family will receive friends at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc. 1303 East State Street, Olean, Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 11am-1pm with funeral service to follow at 1 pm. Dr Rev Ivan Crossno of the Olean First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11am in Mt. View Cemetery, Veterans Section will full military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Olean First Baptist Church Building Fund.
