Glenda Burgess Golden

Olean-Glenda Burgess Golden of 943 Kingston Drive, Olean, passed away August 14, 2021 at her home.

Born July 18, 1915 in Fillmore, she was the daughter of the late Glen and Mildred Leet Burgess. On June 16, 1942, Glenda married Dr. John Edward Golden, who predeceased her on December 8, 1996.

Glenda was a homemaker and also involved with many hobby groups throughout her life. Her hands were always happily busy creating a new treasure for a family member or a friend. From ceramics, to knitting, she made hundreds of Newborn baby caps for the OGH to hand out, to quilting handcrafts. Her quilts are keeping people warm from Texas to Alaska, as well as many folks in Olean.

Where ever she went, she left a smile on people’s hearts. Few folks have enjoyed supporting our local eateries as did Glenda. She always looked forward to her Friday nights out and her ‘Friday Martini’. When asked of her longevity, she would respond with her famous three secret ‘B’s’; “Bacon, Butter, and Bodka(Vodka)”.

For a lady who was fearful of flying, she gathered her wits and ended up flying to Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, California as well as Texas. She enjoyed playing many different card games and had a Tuesday card club up until all her card-playing friends were gone. She remained in her home up to and beyond her 106th birthday.

Glenda is survived by two sons; Thom Golden of Olean and Rick (Joy Zimmerman) Golden of Boise, Idaho; one granddaughter, Charlotte Gillian Golden; two step grandsons, Ryan (Claire) Rosston and Matt (Lindsay) Rosston; two great grandchildren, Dylan Rosston and Bailey Rosston who called her 4-G, Great Grandma Glenda Golden.

She was predeceased by her husband and parents; three brothers, Robert Jack Burgess, Glenn Burgess ll, and Dave Burgess; and one sister, Maxine Burgess Bloomster.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Thursday (August 26, 2021) from 1pm-2pm.  Funeral services will follow at 2pm. Gina Anderson with Homecare and Hospice will officiate. Burial will take place Friday (August 27, 2021) at 11am in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Houghton, NY.
