Helen Lewicki

Olean- Helen Bysiek Lewicki, 86, of Olean, passed away peacefully at home on Monday (October 17, 2022) after a brief illness.

Born October 02, 1936, in Olean, she was the daughter of John and Stefania Turek Bysiek.  On June 09, 1956, she married Donald (Don) Lewicki, Sr., at the church of the Transfiguration in Olean.  He predeceased her on May 01, 2019 after 63 years of marriage.

Helen graduated from Olean High School in 1954 and immediately went to work for the Cattaraugus County Public Health Nursing Department as secretary to the Nursing Director. In 1972, she transferred to the Cattaraugus County Guidance Center (now Community Services),and retired in 1992.

Helen became a member of St. John’s Church after the closing of the Transfiguration Parish in 2010.  She enjoyed her family, crocheting, and gardening.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Don Jr. (Judy) Lewicki and Larry Lewicki both of Olean; three granddaughters, Christine (Kevin) Zeznick of Sammamish, Washington, Dr. Laura (Dr. David) Lamb of Allegany and Dr. Kathleen (Matt) Gove of Melrose; three great-grandchildren, Michael, and Margaret (Maggie) Lamb, and Natalie Gove; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Helen is predeceased by three brothers, Bernard Bysiek, Edward Bysiek, Sr., and Michael Bysiek.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State on Thursday from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (October 21, 2022) at 10am at St. John’s Church, 931 N. Union Street, Olean. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, next to her loving husband.
