Helen Worth Obituary

Portville-Helen Rose (Warner) Worth has made her mark. Born to parents, Vern and Mary Jo (Burger) Warner in Portville, NY, on January 20, 1934, Helen passed into God's arms on January 9, 2021, in Hampton, VA.

On July 16, 1952, she married James W Worth. They had three children, Mary K. Worth, Karen (Orie) Heist, and Bradley (Nancy) Worth. Helen came from a family with seven children: Robert (Carolyn) Warner, Richard (Lois) Warner, Ronald (Judith) Warner, Joan (Sal then Ed) Guarnaccia Garneau, James (Nancy) Warner, and Thomas (Rosemary) Warner. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother Richard. She is survived by children, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Also surviving are in-laws and relatives on the Warner & Worth sides of the family. She was loved and will be dearly missed by many.

A 1952 graduate of Portville Central HS, she went on to graduate from St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelors in English Education in 1971. Helen was a HS teacher at Portville until 1989. She received her Masters degree there, too.

Diagnosed in 1988 with HIV/AIDS, she was a pioneer in the area, state, country, and world. She helped bring the AIDS Quilt to St Bonaventure, and was inducted as a Women of Distinction in the NYS Capitol. Helen served on the PCS School Board and was the first inducted into the school Wall of Fame. She served on the Portville Village Board, the Portville Historical Society, the Portville Friends of the Library, Jonah's Attic, and the Portville United (now River's Edge) Methodist Church. She lived her passion of painting, quilting, reading, and writing, along with always teaching, listening, and loving.

Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no visitation. A small, private funeral will lay her to rest next to her beloved husband, Jim. The service will be livestreamed at http://buffalomedia.net/01162021. There will be a Celebration of Life later, with the date, place, and time published.

In lieu of flowers, people are encouraged to make a donation to one of the above places in Helen's name.
