Portville- Jack D. “Hobie” Houben, of Portville, passed away Tuesday (June 8, 2021) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born December 2, 1948 in Olean, he was the son of the late, Ray and Helen Sayers Houben.
“Hobie” was a self-employed high-performance engine builder and worked for Drillers LLC in Pennsylvania as well as All American Trucking in Allegany.
Hobie, also known as “10-Grand Jack” was a long-time member of the N.H.R.A (National Hot Rod Association). He built stock cars and loved all forms of racing. He never missed a good SWAP meet with his grandson, Shaw.
Surviving is his special friend and guardian angel, Mary Kay Houben; three children, Steven D. Houben of Portville, Elizabeth “Betsy” Houben of Portville, and Lisa Houben of Olean; three grandchildren, Shaw A. Shearer, Ravyn (Tyler) Cramer, and Cydney Graves with the United States Air Force; two great-grandchildren, Lincoln Shearer and Chevelle Cramer; one sister, Trudy Shine of Pennsylvania; and one brother Richard (Jean) Carlson of California.
Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Saturday (June 12, 2021) from 10am-noon, with funeral services beginning at noon. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
