James A. Bailey, Jr.

“Loving Husband and Father”

Portville- James A. Bailey, Jr., a longtime Portville resident, passed away suddenly, on Friday (June 4th 2021). 

Born September 26, 1949 in Cuba, he was the son of the late, James A. and Jennie Lucy Hall Bailey, Sr. He married Judy Scalfaro on August 12, 1978, who survives.

James worked for many years managing linen companies before working for Empire cheese. He didn’t enjoy sitting around, so after retiring, James worked for Home Depot in Olean, and was named employee of the month, last month.

He was a devoted family man and would do anything to help anyone, always putting himself last. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time at the beach. James was an avid race fan and cheered for Davey Allison, until his death, and currently rooted for Ryan Blaney. James was enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills.

In addition to his loving wife, Judy, James is survived by; one son, Brian J. Bailey of Portville; one sister, Barbara (Dean) Carney of Geneseo; his dog, Marco; and many loving nieces and nephews.  

He will be remembered by all with love.

Besides his parents, James was predeceased by four sisters; Brenda Baschnagel, Sharon Welch, Pam Roberts, and Joyce Dempsey.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc, 51 S. Main Street, Portville on Tuesday (June 8, 2021) from 6-7pm. Services will follow at 7pm, officiated by Dr. Rev. Anthony Evans.
