Olean- James R. Hopkins of 625 Route 16 S. passed away Friday (December 30, 2022) at his home.
Born June 12, 1948, in Olean, he was the son of the late Wallace and Fern Safford Hopkins. On June 14, 1980, he married Carol Ganoung, who survives.
Jim was a veteran of the United States Army from 1968-1971. He later worked for the former Dal Tile Plant for 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Town of Olean Volunteer Fire Department, and a lifetime member and past President of the St. Stephen’s Club. He enjoyed riding his tractor and most of all spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Jacqueline (Walter) Shales of Bolivar, Stacey Smock of Allegany, Nancy (Leonard Butler) Hopkins of Olean, Chelsea Hopkins of Olean, Jamie (Tim Rice) Hopkins of Wellsville; twelve grandchildren, Zack, Wally, Kailey, Cameron, Aiden, Elizabeth, Crystal, Bella, Meladee, Ryleigh, Cierrah, and Brianna; two grand-pups Sam and Pebbles; one sister, Bernice (ChucK) Richardson of Cuba; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Dave) Peters and Julie Ganoung; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his siblings; Effie Hopkins, Bertha VanCuren, Roy Hopkins, Joan Lawton, Harriett Caton, and Richard Hopkins; and brother-in-law, Butch Ganoung.
Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Wednesday (January 4, 2023) from 10am-12pm at which time funeral services will begin. Burial will be at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
