Obituary

Fredericksburg, VA- Jeffery A. Burgess, formerly of Olean, now residing at 11400 Pine Needle Court, Fredericksburg, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday (August 12, 2023), doing what he loved most: playing golf.

Born August 22, 1957, he was the son of the late Lewis and Roxanne Davis Burgess. On September 12, 1986, he married Catherine Rogozinski, who survives.

Jeffery was a graduate of Otto-Eldred Junior- Senior High School. For many years, he owned his own business, Burgess Enterprises, formerly Murray Tool Systems. He was a project manager for various companies and a substitute at BOCES, where he taught First Aid, CPR, and Points and Insurance.  Due to an unfortunate accident, Jeff had to retire.

He coached Olean Girls Softball for 11 years and helped run the concession stand.  He was on the National Ski Patrol for over thirty years and was the first patroller to do this job as a snowboarder.  Jeff also enjoyed giving snowboarding instructions in Ellicottville. He was a longtime member of the Exchange Club in Olean.

Jeff enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Bartlett Country Club, and served as Chairman of the Green Committee.  He was on the Board of Directors and past President of Pine Acres Golf Course and volunteered for two years at Lee Hill Golf Course in Fredericksburg, VA. Over the years, Jeff had three hole-in-ones. He passed the love of golf on to his grandchildren and purchased a set of golf clubs for them.  In his free time, Jeff loved to vacation with his family, watch movies and sports, and keep in contact with his many golf buddies.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, Jeff was blessed with two daughters, Dr. Carrie Ann (Thomas) Bruss of Canfield, OH, and Nicole Helene (Jerome) Skinner of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren, Julius Eligia Skinner, Bishop Burgess Skinner, Hailey Marie Bruss, and Thomas Gilbert Bruss, II; his siblings; Kimberly (Harvey) Meyer, Anthony (Ann) Burgess, and Diane (Joseph) Baldini; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Jeff is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Stanley (Mary) Rogozinski, Thomas Rogozinski, Raymond (Karen) Rogozinski, and Michael (Patty) Rogozinski.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Stanley and Eligia Rogozinski.
