John Boats Obituary
ALLEGANY --- John M. Boats loving husband, father and friend to all, passed away Tuesday afternoon (June 13, 2023) after a long battle with leukemia.
He was born in Olean and graduated from Olean High School in 1964, later earning an associate’s degree from Bryant and Stratton. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He worked at Olean Wholesale Grocery for 39 years and was the director of Data Processing.
With his brother-in-law Joseph DeCerbo, John coached Little League Baseball and East Olean Midget Football for 20 years.
John is survived by his son, Dr. Jeffrey J. Boats of Rochester Hills, MI.; three grandchildren, Michael Lee, Kathryn, and Matthew Isaac; and his brother Leo Boats.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Shirley F. DeCerbo; his parents, Bernard E. and Patricia M. Boats; and a brother Joseph P. Boats.
At John’s request, there will be no services. In his memory, donations in John’s name may be given to the Olean Little League.
