Spring, TX- On Sunday, July 31, 2022, Kenneth Michael ‘Mike’ Marsh of Spring, Texas, passed away after a lengthy illness. He was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born to Kenneth and Vivian Marsh on December 7, 1945, Mike was raised in Portville. He graduated from Portville Central School in 1963. He went on to earn a degree in Accounting at State University of New York at Delhi and attended Kent State University. In 1967, Mike was drafted by the United States Army. In January of 1968 he was sent to Vietnam as part of the 23rd (American) Infantry Division. During his service, he rose to the rank of sergeant and was awarded both the Bronze Star and the Army Air Medal for meritorious service in both ground and air combat, respectively. After returning home from Vietnam, he married Frances (Miller) Marsh on July 17, 1970.
Mike spent more than two decades as a salesman and manager in the computer industry. He started his career with the Burroughs Corporation and worked for Digital Equipment, UNISYS and Hewlett-Packard. Later in his career, he served as branch manager of the Cuba, New York office of Five Star Bank and as a real estate agent and broker. Mike was also an entrepreneur. He owned multiple rental properties, a car wash, and a snowplowing business. In addition, he was an active member and officer of the local Lions Club in both Portville and Cuba, New York. In 2007, Mike semi-retired and moved to Spring, Texas.
Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Marsh, his son Kelly Marsh, his daughter-in-law Lindsay Marsh, and his granddaughter Rachel Marsh, all of Houston, Texas, and his son Kenneth Marsh of Wilmington, Delaware.
He was predeceased by his parents and his three sisters, Carol Marsh, Nora Peasley, of Richmond, Virginia, Mary Lee Schumeyer, of Frederick, Maryland.
Friends will be received at the at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 1-2pm, with a memorial service beginning at 2pm. Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion.
