Allegany- Larry P. Johnson, Jr., “L.P” of Wing Hollow Road, Allegany, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (January 27, 2023) after a brief illness.
Born July 22, 1976, in Olean, he was the son of Larry and Sari Church Johnson, Sr. While attending Bowling Green State University in Ohio, he met the love of his life, Stacey Salupo. They were married on August 15, 1998, in Parma, Ohio.
L.P. was a retired Lieutenant colonel (LTC) with the United States Army. During his service, from 1999- 2019 he received numerous medals, awards, and commendations. He was a senior military science instructor with St. Bonaventure University at the time of his passing.
L.P. was a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892. He enjoyed golfing, throwing darts, playing cornhole, and was an avid marathon runner. Most of all, he was a devoted husband and dad who was incredibly proud of his three boys.
In addition to his wife Stacey of 24 years, Larry is survived by; his parents of Weston Mills; three sons, Jared, Braden, and Evan Johnson all of Allegany; four brothers, Anthony (Tammy) Scalfaro, Terry (Tracy) Scalfaro, Steve (Bonnie) Johnson, Eric Johnson; two sisters, Kimberly Johnson, and Jennifer (Steve) Brantley; his in-laws, Salvatore Salupo, Jr., and Ann Salupo; sister in-law, Ann Marie Salupo; brother-in-law, Todd Salupo; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was predeceased by one brother, Jeremy.
Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean on Monday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (January 31, 2023) at 11am in the funeral home. Pastor Bruce Taylor, with Abundant Life Ministries of Catt County, will officiate. Burial will follow with full military honors, accorded by the Allegany American Legion in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
