Lawrence (Larry) A. Douglas loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather
Portville – Lawrence (Larry) A. Douglas of Prosser Road, Portville, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday (April 13,2022) at his home.
Born October 3, 1939, in Olean, to the late Claude and Helen Schoonmaker Douglas. Larry married the former Sandra Gale, who predeceased him. He then married Linda North on March 17, 2001, who survives.
Larry graduated from Eldred Central School in 1957. He went on to Indiana State College, where he joined the Army ROTC program, graduating with a business degree. Settling in the Portville area, Larry went on to work as a Branch Manager for Olean CIT in 1963. Throughout his career, he worked as a salesman for Harry Graves & Sons, AMC Garage, Family Ford, Kleiser Ford and Portville Sales. Larry was a member of the Bolivar Lion’s Club and the Bolivar Legion.
Larry loved working on tractors, flipping houses, going to flee markets, auctions and being an auctioneer. He also tinkered on many projects in his garage. His biggest love was spending time with his family and his dog, Ginger.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Deborah (Ted) Douglas, Brian (Michelle) Douglas, Danielle (Robert) Ostrum, Michelle (Ples) Breazeale, and Richard Freer Jr.; five grandchildren, Patrick Phillips, Paige (Benjamin) Bluhm, Allissa Breazeale, Ples Breazeale Jr., and Gabriel Breazeale; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marcella (Charles) Smith.
He was predeceased by; his parents, Claude and Helen; siblings, Daniel Douglas, Shirley Douglas and Alan Douglas; and a granddaughter Sara Douglas.
Family will receive friends at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville on Monday (April 18, 2022) from 2-4pm with funeral services to follow at 4pm in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
