Martha Rose Chapus

Olean- Martha Rose “Mim” Chapus, of River Street, Olean, passed away Friday (September 2, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital.

Born February 16, 1923, in Olean, she was the daughter of George and Rose Kwiatkowski Sokolowski.  On August 23, 1944, she married Alfonse Chapus, who predeceased her on November 18, 1996.

Martha was a graduate of Olean High School.  She was a devoted homemaker and an avid New York Yankees Fan.  She was also a wonderful cook and baker.

Surviving are her four children; Cynthia (James) Crawford of Olean, Robert (Marjorie) Chapus of Allegany, Susan (James) Conrad of Olean, David (Julie) Chapus of Rush; four grandchildren, Danielle Conrad, John Crawford, Laura Kaiser, and Abigail Chapus; four great-grandchildren, Lila Crawford, Jack Crawford, Brayden Michael Schmitt, and Jason Kaiser; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Martha was predeceased by; one grandson, Jimmy Crawford, and nine siblings.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday (September 8, 2022) beginning with a 10:30am prayer service at the funeral home followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John’s Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
