Melinda T. Splawski

Olean- Melinda T. Splawski, a longtime Olean resident, passed away Saturday (January 2, 2021) at the Field of Dreams in Allegany, where she had been residing.

Born April 14, 1938 in Olean, she was the daughter of the late, Philip c. and Frances I. Halliday Carlson.  On September 5, 1959 at St. Mary of the Angels Church, in Olean, she married James M. Splawski, who predeceased her on February 11, 2017.

Melinda was a graduate of Olean High School, class of 1956.  She first worked for First National Bank, and later for Sears and Roebuck, where she retired from in 1996. After her retirement, she worked for Dr. AJ Kothari.

She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and enjoyed reading, knitting, skiing, beach vacations, and all the holidays.  She will be remembered for her love of entertaining friends and family with hosting Sunday family dinners, Super Bowls, and summer pool parties.

Melinda is survived by two daughters; Kim (Stephen) Potter of Allegany and Sally (Michael) Nenno of Olean; four grandsons, Alex Nenno, Ryan Potter, Corey (Catherine) Potter, and Bradley Nenno; one brother-in-law, Philip Splawski; one sister-in-law, Marie Rollins; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings; Robert (Ann) Carlson, Richard (Ruth) Carlson, Millicent (Richard) Yeager, and Philip “Hooks” Carlson.

Private funeral services will be held at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

Memorials if desired, may be made to HomeCare and Hospice, 1225 W. State Street, Olean or to the Olean Food Pantry, 8 Leo Moss Drive, Olean.
