Olean- Mildred Jean Torrey, formerly of the Haskell Road in Olean, passed away Saturday (March 4, 2023) at the Lakeview Manor in Smethport, PA.
Born August 13, 1930, in Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Edith Phillips Anderson. She first married William Chadwick. She later married James Torrey, who predeceased her in 2014.
Jean worked as a secretary for Portville Central School for many years. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and toll painting in her free time. Jean also enjoyed volunteering at the Portville Free Library and attended the former St. Andrew’s Church and River’s Edge United Methodist Church.
She is survived by; two children, Jill (Paul) Ivanich and Todd (Monica Kellogg) Chadwick; seven grandchildren, Amber (Dan) Hosmer, Chad Ivanich, Keenan Chadwick, Kaija (Andrew Wood) Chadwick, Kira (Jordan) Spencer, Amanda Weilacher, and Daman Holland; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Nancy) Anderson; and many dear cousins.
In addition to her husband James, Jean was predeceased by; one sister, Phyllis Turner.
Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State Street on Saturday (March 25, 2023) from 1-3 pm, with a memorial service beginning at 3 pm.
