Nelson Heppner

Olean --- Nelson Heppner, age 87, entered heaven peacefully on October 1, 2023.  He didn’t pass alone as part of our hearts went with him.

Nelson worked for many years for the Erie County Parks Department and retired from Sprague Brook Park.  After retirement, he loved being a groundskeeper for Concord Crest Golf Course where he worked until he was no longer able.

Nelson loved camping, the outdoors, nature and animals.  He could hear a bird singing and tell you exactly what it was. He was a very talented painter and his paintings hang in the homes of many family members and friends. He loved target shooting, gun making and black powder was his favorite.  He looked forward to the civil war re-enactment he attended every year. Nelson cheered faithfully for the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.  Hope he gets to witness a Super Bowl and Stanley Cup win from above. He will certainly be missed by all who loved him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Heppner.  He leaves behind his daughter, Linda Kumar (David Wertman) and son, James Heppner, and his stepdaughter, who he also considered his daughter, Rebecca Simsick (Thomas) and Kathleen Reed, and a stepson, James Reed (Janice), along with grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Nelson’s life is planned for next year at a date to be announced.
