Norman E. VanCuren

PORTVILLE --- Norman E. VanCuren of 1874 Portville-Obi Road, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday (March 26, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital.

Born August 7, 1948, he was raised by Lynford Swetland and Shirley Mitchell-Shurer.

Norm was a graduate of Portville Central School and a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. 

He was a truck driver for LC Whitford Co. for many years, and after retirement, he drove truck for Portville Truck.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union as well as a member of the 1965-66 Football Club. Norm was a life-long Portville resident. No doubt, all of Portville considered Norm "a friend".

He is survived by his step-parents, Lynford Swetland of Portville and Shirley J. Mitchell-Shurer of Gering Nebraska; and his longtime companion, Mary Afton.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville on Friday (April 1, 2022) from 10-11am with a memorial service to follow at 11am in the funeral home. Dr. Rev. Anthony Evans, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
