Patricia Manning Obituary

“Loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and cousin”

Olean- Patricia (Pat) Marie Harrington Manning, a lifelong resident of Olean, passed away Wednesday (March 1, 2023) at the Olean General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.

Born September 17, 1939, in Olean, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Cecelia Kwiatkowski Harrington. Pat first worked as a secretary at a law office before her marriage. She met Donald R. Manning at the Olean Trust Company when he was a teller and that is where their story began. They were married on August 20, 1960, at St. Mary of the Angels church in Olean.

Pat was a devoted mother and homemaker to her husband and four children.  After their children went to school, she worked at Westons Shoppers City for several years until its closing. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Angels Church.

Words cannot describe how much Pat will be missed by everyone who knew her. She loved Sunday dinners with her kids and grandchildren, the color blue, and the family gatherings with her siblings and cousins. Every year her siblings gathered at her brother Bobby’s house, with whom she shared a birthday with. There were many laughs and fond memories growing up on Homer Hill.  She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Don and Pat enjoyed vacationing in Florida to see family and friends, as well as trips to Maine, Ohio, and Tennessee.

Pat put everyone before herself and helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Grandma and Grandpa’s home was always considered a second home to them and they were always welcomed. They always enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s swim meets, dance recitals, and softball, baseball, and football games. During her 17-year illness, she was strong, loving, and caring. She never complained even though it took a toll on her over the years.  The love and support from all of her family including her siblings, cousins, and friends will never be forgotten.

In addition to her loving husband of 62 years, Pat is survived by; two daughters Denise (Allen) Peters and Lisa (Paul) Marra; nine grandchildren, Jason (Amber) Peters, Josh (Petty) Rader, Bradley, Patricia, Melissa, and Amanda Manning, Shelby (Bryan Conde) Marra, Caitlin (Brian) Keane, and Nicole Marra; 21 great-grandchildren whom she loved and cherished very much.  She is also survived by five siblings, Margaret (Brig. General Thomas Bowen) Bowen, Edward (Linda) Harrington, Catherine (James) Kubic, and Beverly Blessing; sisters-in-law, Rosie Harrington and Carol Ann Fegley; and several nieces and nephews, who loved their “Aunt Pat”.

She was predeceased by; two precious sons, Gregory John Manning in 1984 and Brian Thomas Manning in 2018; and two brothers, Eugene “Cookie” Harrington and Robert “Bobby” Harrington.

There will be no visitation. Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday (March 6, 2023) at 10 am at the St. Mary of the Angels Basilica, 201 S. Union Street, Olean.  Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
