Paul Goodwin

Olean- Paul Goodwin passed away Monday (June 28, 2021) in his home after a brief illness. 

Born December 17, 1951, he was the son of Francis and Jean Hoganson Goodwin.  He married Valerie Fidurko on July 5, 1975, who survives.

Paul was a graduate of Archbishop Walsh High School, class of 1969 and St. Bonaventure University in 1973. He was employed by the Cubic Storage Co.  for 37 years up to his retirement in February 2020.

He was a member of St. Bonaventure Parish in Allegany; returning to the parish of his youth after the closing of Transfiguration Parish.  He was a lector and involved in many of these parishes’ functions, especially the festivals. 

Paul was very involved in his children’s education, serving on the Parents Organizations of both Southern Tier Catholic and Archbishop Walsh High School.  He loved sports playing Alle-Catt baseball and pick up basketball.  He coached youth soccer, Little League and basketball.  He was a member of the Pulaski Club, enjoying the Polish traditions of his wife’s family. 

Surviving are two children; Sara (Michael) Lambert and Kevin (Becky Spitler) Goodwin; three grandchildren, Olivia and Amelia Lambert and Oliver Goodwin; One brother, Steve Goodwin and one sister Mary George.

Paul’s life upon his marriage was the Fidurko Family, he is survived by his sisters-in-law and his brothers-in-law, Janice (Timothy) Richardson, Thomas Fidurko, David Fidurko, Corlee Fidurko, Edward (Debra) Fidurko, Marie (Gregory) Cummins, Susan (Hank) Vanderhorst, Ann (Thomas) Kitlinger, Michael (Mary Beth) Fidurko, Christine (Robert) Bailey, and Patricia (Jeffery) Smith.

He loved his nieces and nephews; Joseph, Patrick, Carrie, Andrew, Paula, Melissa, Brian, Dale, Jason, Nicholas, Jennifer, Zachary, Megan, Morgan, Matthew, Lydia, Taylor, Nathan, Madison, Garrett, Aaron, Aubrey and Beth.  He especially enjoyed his grandnieces and grandnephews. 

He was predeceased by; his parents, his in-laws, Edward and Theresa Fidurko; brother-in-law, James Fidurko; and nephew, Bill George.

A celebration of Paul’s life will take place on Friday, July 2, 2021 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church, Allegany NY at 11:00 AM. Rev. James Vacco, OFM will be the celebrant.   Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany at the convenience of his family.
