Paul Roberts, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother
Olean- Paul Roberts, 90 of Olean, NY, passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2024 at Olean General Hospital.
Born on December 4, 1933, in Yantley, Alabama, Paul lived a life filled with dedication, love and passion. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956, an experience that instilled in him a lifelong sense of service and camaraderie. After completing his military service, he graduated from college in Minnesota, paving the way for a successful career in healthcare. He began his professional journey at the VA Hospital in Buffalo before spending 30 years at Olean General Hospital, where he worked diligently in the laboratory. Paul also had an entrepreneurial side. He owned the Palace bar and a general store in Little Genesee, NY. A true sports enthusiast, Paul had a deep love for football, baseball and boxing. He was also an avid swimmer. One of his favorite pastimes was playing poker, especially Texas Hold’em, and he cherished his weekly games with his tight knit poker group.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Raye; his daughter, Michelle; and his stepchildren, Patrick Hayes (Frank), Larry Jones (Charlotte), and Cynthia Latney. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Myron Latney Jr. (Kaeyla) and Darian Latney, as well as his siblings, Samuel Roberts and Ozie Smith, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Paul’s legacy of kindness, humor and love for family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, C.F and Fannie; siblings, James Roberts, Mary Roberts, Darnella Ellis, Anne Hilton and Odessa Smith.
Family will receive friends at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St. Olean, on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 10am to 11am. A celebration of Paul’s life will begin at 11am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
