Rachel A. Gross

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother

Portville-Rachel A. Gross, a longtime Portville Resident, passed away Sunday (December 26, 2021) at the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home in Springville, where she had been residing.

Born December 20, 1931 in Olean, she was the daughter of the late David and Margaret Stoner. On October 7, 1950 in Olean, she married Leon Gross, who passed away on January 4, 2007.

Rachel was a devoted mom to her children as well as many foster children she had raised over the years.  She was also a faithful member of the Portville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children; Terry (Cathy) Gross of West Valley, Jeanette (David) Cummings of South Carolina, and Richard (Lisa) Gross of Lakewood; ten grandchildren; thirty six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Ruth Bixby; and one brother, John Fischer.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey A. Gross.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville on Monday (January 3, 2022) from 1-3pm.  Funeral services will begin at 4pm at the Portville Baptist Church, 24 Temple Street, Portville.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.
