Ralph H. Compton
Olean- Ralph H. Compton, of Olean, passed away Friday (January 3, 2025) at the Olean General Hospital.
Ralph was born in Olean on January 16, 1933, the son of the late Howard D. and Jean Smith Compton.
Ralph grew up in Portville and attended Portville schools, graduating in 1950. He was an above-average student and was promoted from fifth to seventh grade. Upon graduation, he entered the former Westbrook Commercial Academy in Olean and graduated in 1952.
He worked as a licensed fire and casualty insurance agent and underwriter for 13 years and for the former McGranaghan Appraisal Company for three years in the real estate appraisal field. He later worked for 19 years for Dresser-Rand and the former Clark Brothers Company in the valve department until his retirement. Ralph was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, local 4601. For the past several years, he was on the board of trustees for Mount Hope Cemetery Association, Friendship.
Ralph is survived by his beloved companion, Myrtle Spacht; and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Jean.
At Ralph’s request there will be no services, he will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, in Belfast.
