Rebecca Cady Obituary

Rebecca Ann Haught Cady, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother

Wirt- Rebecca Ann Haught Cady, of Wirt, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital, with loving family members by her side.

Becky was born on September 15, 1942, to Robert and Wanda (Hurd) Haught in Olean. She graduated from Bolivar Central School in 1960 as an honor student and cheerleader. That summer, she met Donald L. Cady, and they married on October 21, 1961.

Don and Becky lived in Victor for a year before returning to Richburg and building a home in 1962. Three children followed, even as Don attended several National Science Foundation institutes during summers, culminating in a full year at the institute in 1969. So, the family tented down the Blue Ridge mountains and on to Houston for an MS in geology. A delayed honeymoon was taken in 1968 with a camping trip around Lake Superior and then southwest to Yellowstone, with a fourth child coming along in 1972.

Becky was a 66-year member of the First-Day Baptist Church in Richburg and a leader in the AWANA program. She was active in the sports and music boosters of Richburg Central School. Many years were spent as a Girl Scout leader for Pam and Beth while leading Rob and Ray to the rank of Eagle Scout, a family tradition.  Becky was also a member of the 4C’s Senior Citizen group of Bolivar Richburg, and a member of the Richburg Cemetery Association. She loved elephants, walks on the farm, bird watching, apples with peanut butter, playing solitaire, and reading her Daily Bread. She was always willing and ready to care for family and friends’ children and was often quoted as “living a life full of cats, dogs, and kids”. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Becky is survived by her husband, Don; four children, Robert James (Carolyn) Cady, Raymond Elias (Kristen) Cady, Pamela Jill Cady (Larry Scott), Beth Ann (Ian) Cady-Flatau; fourteen grandchildren, Benjamin (Bridey), Brandon (Katie), Elias, Bradley (Lindsay), Emily, Alaric, Kory, Alice (Joseph), Kelsea (Coty), Ian, James, Konner, Justyce, and Lillian; twelve great-grandchildren, Elliott, Trent, JJ, Oliver, Kade, Landon, Hazel, Willow, Joseph Jr., Everett and two littles on the way; two brothers, Dennis (Sue) Haught of Olean, and Steven (Bob Stoner) Haught of Chicago, IL.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the First-Day Baptist Church at 1 pm, 128 Main St. Richburg, NY 14774, with a Celebration of Life luncheon to immediately follow at the Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
