Rebekah J. Malone, beloved wife, mother, grandma, and memaw

Olean- Rebekah J. Malone, of Olean, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on Sunday February 9, 2025 at the Olean General Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born in Olean on September 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Catherine Prosser. On January 4, 1964 she married her loving husband L. Thomas Malone, who survives.

She was a graduate of Allegany Central School, class of 1962. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing receiving her LPN; Jamestown Community College receiving her RN; and Damien College receiving an RN BSN. She was employed at St. Francis Hospital, Cuba Memorial Hospital, Olean General Hospital and Cattaraugus County Health Dept. She retired in 2022, completing 57 years of nursing at the age of 78.

Becky was a member of St. John’s Church of Olean. She volunteered at the Oswayo Valley Senior Center doing blood pressures. In her off hours, she enjoyed creating stained glass and making costume jewelry. She was loved by many who knew her.

Surviving is the love of her life, her husband of 61 years. L. Thomas Malone of Olean; 2 sons, Garret (Mari) of East Syracuse, and G. Shawn (Cassie) of Syracuse; 2 grandchildren, Katie Goodrich RN of Gadsden AL and TJ Malone of Syracuse; 1 great granddaughter, Autumn Rose Goodrich of Gadsden AL; a sister Trinkett Chiapuso of Colorado; a brother John Prosser of Sacramento CA; and a special niece, Shelly Wilcox of Colorado; and her beloved pets, a cat, Brogar, and 2 Doxins, Dan and Yetti.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jerome and Catherine; a great grand-daughter Liliana Grace; 3 sisters, Bettey Ann Colter, Barbara Piazza and Debra Fuller.

Family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St. Olean, NY with a funeral service starting at 6 pm in the funeral home, with Fr. Chris Emminger officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
