Robert F. Holtz, loving partner, dad, papa, brother and friend
Portville- Robert F. Holtz, of Portville, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Bob was born in Olean on July 20, 1965, the son of the late Floyd “Fuzzy” and Kathryn (Lee) Holtz.
He graduated from Portville Central School in 1984 and joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving as a law enforcement officer until 1988. After serving, he worked as an engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad for over twenty years until his health forced him to retire. When he would drive through Olean, he would call his kids, so they could run to wave as he went by.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, pool and darts. He held a membership with the Portville Legion for many years. When not home or with family, he could often be found hanging out at “the barn” (IYKYK) with his friends watching the Buffalo Bills or NASCAR. On weekdays he would watch Good Morning America, where he would pick up cooking tips. He was a good cook, just like his dad. Midmornings were spent watching Let’s Make a Deal and the Price Is Right.
Bob is survived by his significant other, Jane Depp; his three children, Heather (Jon) Burgess, Nichole (Kevin Rogers) Holtz, and Jason (Kerri Haynoski) Holtz; five grandchildren, Maliegha Burgess, Damien Warren, Caleb Burgess, Kayonna Warren and Gabby Reinard; a brother, Bill Sterling; a sister, Laura Holtz; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and his canine companion, Lucy.
He was predeceased by, his parents, Fuzzy and Kathryn; a brother, Jerry; and his other parents, Earl and Virginia Sterling.
Family will receive family and friends on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 10 am to 12 noon at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St. Olean, with a funeral service starting at 12 noon in the funeral home, Chaplain Terry Bush will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion.
Please dress casually, Bob wouldn’t want fancy dress on his account.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family wishes to thank the Olean General ICU physicians and nurses for the special care they took of Bob.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life, will take place at a later date and time.
