Portville- Robert S. “Pop” Warner, a lifelong Portville resident, passed away Thursday (August 26, 2021) at the Wellsville Manor.
Born January 13, 1926 in Bradford, PA., he was the son of the late, Vern and Josephine Warner. On January 30, 1948, he married Caroline Roulo, who predeceased him on May 13, 2021.
Pop was a graduate of Portville Central School, class of 1943. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, from 1943-1946. While in the Navy, he completed advanced training in radar technology and achieved rank of Electronic Technician Mate 2nd Class. He served aboard the USS McCall and USS Suisun and was awarded the American theatre and Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with one star.
Pop worked his way up through Viko Furniture (now Ethan Allen) and retired as their President after forty-four years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoyed golfing. He was a longtime member of Bartlett Country Club and Coon Hollow Club.
He is survived by; three children, Bob (Cheryl) Warner of Cuba, Jacalyn (William) Urban of Tidioute, Pa., and Sandy Berends of Pennfield; five grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, Louis, William, and Emily; twelve great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ronnie (Judy) Warner, Thomas (Rosemary) Warner, and Jim (Nancy) Warner all of Portville; one sister Joanne (Ed) Gorneau of West Brook, CT., and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by; one daughter, Cynthia Warner; one brother, Dick Warner; and one sister, Helen Worth.
Private burial services will be held in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville and at the convenience of the family.
