Ronald J. Petruzzi

ELDRED, PA - Ronald Joseph Petruzzi, of Barden Brook Road, passed away on Friday (August 4th, 2023) at Olean General Hospital in Olean, NY.

Born October 7, 1937, he was the son of Elmer and Angeline Marrone-Petruzzi. Ron graduated from Eldred High School Class of 1955 and Bloomsburg University Class of 1963.

On June 15th, 1963, he married Frances Guro. They had a loving marriage for over 60 years and were blessed with four children.

Ron loved his hometown of Eldred, PA. In 1968, he built a home for his growing family on Barden Brook Road, where he spent time gardening, cross-country skiing, golfing, and hunting. Ron attended St. Raphael’s Church in Eldred and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ron was a business math teacher in the Portville School system for 15 years. In 1970, he founded Petruzzi Insurance in Eldred, PA, later expanding to Smethport, PA. In 1995, Ron and his son John opened an office in Olean, NY, then expanded to Salamanca.  Even after his “retirement,” Ron spent almost every day talking to customers and friends in the Eldred office.

Ron was an avid fly fisherman, spending time on the Oswayo River. His favorite fishing spot was at the bridge at Millport. He also fished with his son and grandson on the Madison River in Montana. He enjoyed tying his flies and even built his rods.

Ron and Fran spent their lives together playing golf and traveling, frequently going to Italy, Mexico, Florida, California, and the Jersey Shore. When he was 79, he was proud to have shot a 79 on the golf course.

In addition to Fran, his wife, he is survived by his children; Lynn (Mark) McCullough of Narberth, PA., Martha (Dave) Wolf of Eldred, PA., Angela (Chris) Oliver of Palm Springs, CA; and John (Meghan) Petruzzi of Olean; grandchildren Adam Wolf, Elizabeth, Stephanie and Tess McCullough, and Luke and Kelsey Petruzzi; sisters Margaret DiTanna and Mary Murawski, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State Street, Olean, from 4-7 pm on Monday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday (August 8, 2023) at 10 am at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, 14 1st Street, Eldred, PA, followed by a graveside service at St. Raphael Cemetery in Eldred, PA.
