Clarksville- Ronald M. Smith, Sr., of 3604 Haskell Road, passed away Friday (June 26, 2020) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital, palliative care unit, after a long battle with COPD.
Born August 2, 1944 in Wheatfield, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred and Adeline Smith. On September 5, 2015, he married Joyce McWilliams, who survives.
Mr. Smith worked for General Motors in 2005 as a tradesman in the maintenance department. He also was a welder.
Mr. Smith was an avid outdoorsman and animal lover. He enjoyed trap shooting with the ATA skeet and sporting clays at many of the clubs he belonged to in the twin tiers and in Western New York. Unfortunately, due to health, he retired from hunting and shooting in 2018. He loved watching animals and wildlife on his property. He considered pets like family and he and his wife had nursed many cats back to health. His life was wrapped around his pets that made him smile.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters, Danice and Deanna; and four step-children.
He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Smith.
There will be no services for Mr. Smith. Memorials if desired may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 2944 Rte 16N Olean.
