Obituary

Portville- Ronald Vern Warner, 87, of Lillibridge Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday (June 24, 2023) at his home, surrounded by his loving children, after a long hard-fought battle with lung disease.

Born April 14, 1936, in Portville, he was the son of Vern and Mary Jo Berger Warner. On Valentines Day, 1958, he married the love of his life, Judith K. Chalker, who predeceased him on October 1, 2022.

Ron was a graduate of Portville Central School. Ron was an avid outdoorsman and master bench rest shooter and gunsmith. He worked odd jobs for several years before starting work at Anderson Pattern Works in Portville, where he worked for over 40 years alongside his best friend, Wimpy Swetland, before retiring in 2004.

Ron was a soft-spoken gentleman without a bad word to say about anyone. He saw the good in everyone and was willing to give you the shirt off his back. Besides hunting and fishing, he enjoyed working on guns, shooting, bowling, golfing, and carpentry. He and Judy loved their annual trips to the Amish Country in Ohio with his son, Gregg, and his wife, Cinda. Ron also enjoyed long car rides and reminiscing about his boyhood. Most of all, however, he loved spending time with his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family was the light of his life.

Ron is survived by his loving children; Gregg (Cinda) Warner of Allegany, Joel (Laurie) Warner of Portville, and Coralie (Ron) McMahon of Portville; four grandchildren, Aubrey (Ryan) Rockefeller, Cole (Hannah) Warner, Jeff (Molly) McMahon, and Kellie (Nick) Ricci; eight great-grandchildren, Corbin, Callie, and Cade Rockefeller, Harper and Lewis Warner, Madigan and Quincy McMahon, and Izzy Ricci; he is also survived by his sister, Joan (Guarnaccia) Gorneau of Connecticut, James (Nancy) Warner of Portville, and Thomas (Rosemary) Warner of Portville; his sister-in-law Suellen (Jim Clancy), along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ron was predeceased by an infant son, Ben; brothers, Pop (Carolyn) Warner, Dick (Lois) Warner, and sister Helen (Jim) Worth.

Special thanks to Olean Homecare and Hospice, and to his granddaughter, Hannah, for helping to lovingly care for him at his home alongside his children during the last week of his life. He expressed his gratitude many times, and one of his last statements was, “I am the luckiest man in the world to have my children and grandchildren caring for me.” Although, we were lucky to have had him as a part of our lives.

At Ron’s request, there will be no visitation. A small service will be held at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville in the near future for his family.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Portville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 781, Portville, NY 14770.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville. Online condolences can be expressed at www.guentherfh.com.
