Sharon was also the niece of the late Ralph and Ina Cooper Joy of Cuba, growing up, she spent a lot of her time with them. Always enjoying her Uncle Ralph’s laughter and his favorite phrase “Holy mackerel Andy”. Sharon’s daughter stated “she idolized her Uncle Ralph.”

Prior to her illness, Sharon was employed at the University of Buffalo. Her hobbies included writing children’s books and selling unique gifts on eBay. She had a strong faith in God and wanted to save everyone’s soul.

Sharon is survived by two daughters: Mickie Swift of Buffalo, and Bobbie Lynn Joy of Olean; one son, Kenneth Czop of Buffalo; three sisters, Sandra Green of Black Creek, Deborah (Tim) Ostrum of Humphrey and Linda Violanti of Buffalo; three brothers, Larry VanCuren, of Franklinville, Bob (Gloria) Joy of Buffalo, and Douglas Joy of Niagara Falls; six grandchildren, Rebecca Howard, Maggie Howard of Olean,  Kenneth Czop Jr., and Ryan, Vincenzo and Giovanni all of Buffalo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Lester Mendel of West Seneca, and a grandson, Brandon Joy in 2002.

A special thank you to Aunt Sandy, always there for Mom. You were the best sister she could have ever had, and Cousin Joyce Joy Kratts for all you did for our mother. Getting her transferred to Cuba, providing her with top notch care, and mostly managing her pain. Allowing her to pass peacefully.
