Shirley V. Fitzsimmons, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother
Olean- Shirley V. Fitzsimmons, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at The Pines of Olean Nursing Home after a long illness.
Shirley was born in Bradford, PA, on May 19, 1935. She was the daughter of the late, Theodore and Josephine (Bednarek) Stephens. On June 15, 1957, in St. Mary’s Church, she married Thomas L. Fitzsimmons, who predeceased her on September 22, 2016.
Shirley graduated from Olean High School in 1953. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed taking care of her family. Shirley was an avid gardener and enjoyed planting and growing many beautiful flowers. She volunteered and took great pride in delivering Meals on Wheels for several years. The sewing club she belonged to was called, Stitch and Bitch, the name gave everyone a chuckle. She would often go to lunch with her best friend, Judy Kennedy. Every year, she and her husband Thomas would take a trip, going everywhere, traveling the world, and coming home with amazing stories of their adventures.
Shirley is survived by her son, David (Dianna) Fitzsimmons; grandchildren, Thomas (Rashia) Fitzsimmons, James (Carrie Morley) Frair; several great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas; her parents, Theodore and Josephine; and a brother, Daniel Stephens.
At Shirley’s request, services will be private. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, next to her husband Thomas.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St, Olean.
