Steven John Dwaileebe, loving son, brother, and uncle

Olean- Steven John Dwaileebe of Olean, passed away on September 12, 2024 after a long illness. Steve was born in Olean, on February 14, 1958 the son of John and Carole Pike Dwaileebe. He graduated from Olean High School in 1976 and worked for Olean Bottling Works. On August 23, 1997 he married Grace Hafner, who predeceased him.

Steve had a passion for long, daily walks around Olean, engaging friends and people he happened to meet along the way in conversation. Reid's Food Barn and the Service Stores were a major part of his frequent and favorite stops. Steve also enjoyed cheering on the Yankees and the Cleveland Browns.

 The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the caregivers at the Salamanca Rehabilitation Center for their attentiveness to Steve and making his stay as comfortable as possible. Also special thanks to those in the community who were part of Steve’s village, always looking out for him, especially when he needed some extra support.

He is survived by his mother Carole Dwaileebe; his sister Karen (Kevin) Callahan; his brothers, John Jr. (Nina) Dwaileebe, David Dwaileebe, James (Mary Beth)Dwaileebe, all residing in Olean, and Marc (Ati) Dwaileebe of Petaluma, CA; several nieces and nephews; and his uncle and godfather James Dwaileebe of Coronado, CA., who always mentored and supported Steve.
 

He is preceded in death by his father John; his wife Grace; his paternal grandparents, James and Alice Dwaileebe; and his maternal grandparents, Adele Pike Rickhold and Charles Pike.
 

There will be a private service for the family at Guenther Funeral Home on Friday September 20.
