Sylvia A. Barie loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother

Olean- Sylvia A. Barie, 92, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Absolut Care of Allegany, surrounded by her loving family.

Sylvia was born in Harrisburg, PA on March 24, 1932 to the late Michael and Sylvia Mason Chunko. On August 19, 1950, she married Richard (Dick) Barie Sr., who predeceased her May 18, 2017.

Sylvia worked at the Montgomery Wards store and was manager at the Hallmark Remembrance House in the Olean Center Mall. She was a member for many years at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels.

Sylvia loved hosting family gatherings, the holidays, Barie Bakes, quilting and the Buffalo Bills. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them.

Surviving are her six children, Rich (Pattie) Barie, Barbara (George) Burke, Thomas (aka Deter) (Teresa) Barie, Kathy (Pat) Driscoll, Donna Simon, Theresa Paduano and two special (adopted) sons, Joseph Rich and Terry Schnell; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; several special nieces from PA.

Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Dick Sr.; and her parents, Michael and Sylvia; two sisters, Pauline Garber and Alice Harter; and a son in law, Mitch Simon.

Family will receive friends for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, Olean. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St, Olean.
