William J. Gardner
Olean- William J. Gardner, of 401 Alder St. passed away Monday, (September 9, 2024) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born March 10, 1931, in Portville, he was the son of the late Paul and Lillian Burrows Gardner. On Nov. 1, 1952, he married the former Frances N. Chesner, who predeceased him August 27, 2021.
Bill graduated from Olean High School. He and his wife owned and operated the Red Door Saloon in Olean, and he worked for the McGraw Edison Corp. for many years. He loved to do wood working, puzzles and reading.
Bill is survived by his children, Paul (Mary) Gardner of Cuba, Cindy Zapel of Buffalo and Lori (Michael) Darrow of Limestone; 8 grandchildren, Danielle Mullins, Steven Zapel, Amber Hunt, Timothy Zapel, Justin Zapel, Jordan Darrow, Zachary Darrow and Dale Gardner; and 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances; his parents, Paul and Lillian; and a son, Dale R. Gardner; and a brother, Edward Gardner.
At his request, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, and at the convenience of the family.
